My role involves designing buildings that prioritize functionality, security, and adaptability. I work alongside civil engineers and security experts, and I’ve had the opportunity to go on several site visits. Rather than focusing on the typical public versus private distinction, the work is centered around secure versus unsecured spaces, which brings a whole new layer of design thinking!” - Alivia Caples

Morgan Madison Design | Kansas City, MO

“I started my journey with Morgan Madison Design as an intern in August 2023. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to the company and have grown to the role of Junior Designer. One of my primary responsibilities is creating all hand renderings presented to clients, in addition to supporting design development, assembling CAD files, selecting FF&E, managing email correspondence, and more. Earlier this year, I was honored with the opportunity to serve as project lead for the design of a Gulfstream G650 for FlexJet.” - Chase Cheney

MIRELLE ROTHMEIJER | BFA INDS 2027

Interior Design Intern

Gensler | Washington, D.C.

“This summer, I spent 10 weeks interning at Gensler’s Washington, D.C. office in one of their Workplace studios, contributing to active projects focused on human-centered design. I supported design teams with material sourcing, submittal prep, Photoshop renderings, and InDesign decks, while attending client meetings, charrettes, and studio site visits including furniture punch walkthroughs and construction tours. I coordinated with vendors, managed samples and documentation, organized submittals, and helped with project logistics. I regularly worked in Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, and Bluebeam, and completed Gensler’s internal Revit training to enhance my digital design skills. Beyond project work, I contributed to the Intern Showcase and Hospitality Workshop, participated in site tours/field trips to Capital One, M&T Bank Stadium, and the Haworth Showroom, attended professional development events, including RISE Talks, mentorship roundtables, and the “Life of a Project” discussion. I also connected with designers through studio events, vendor outreach, and 1:1 conversations.

Gensler is a global architecture and design firm with over 50 offices worldwide. It is frequently ranked among the top firms in the industry, including # 1 on Architectural Record’s Top 300 and Interior Design Magazine’s Top 100 Giants. Being part of such a well-respected and collaborative environment provided me with valuable insights into large-scale design work, allowing me to contribute meaningfully while learning from experienced professionals across the firm." - Mirelle Rothmeijer
